The Military Family Network

The Military Family Network's mission is "to support military families and increase their readiness and well-being by connecting them with their communities and the organizations that provide the best service and value." They are an official Team Member of the DoD's America Supports You Program, and work with community organizations, local governments and businesses - networking them together with Military Families. They invite the whole community to come onboard to support the families of our Armed Services.

The website, located at http://www.emilitary.org, is about 90% database driven. By making extensive use of MySQL and PHP, we developed a dynamic site that allows the owners to update content easily by storing the information about communities, military installations and the surrounding areas, local businesses, schools, churches, etc., into a database. The content is then generated on the fly to allow the users to easily find information about their local community. The site features a huge forum area where users interact with each other and with local organizations.

The Military Family Network's Neighbor of Choice™ program allows business sponsors to increase their exposure to the military community through the use of Business Directories, Sponsorship Display boxes, and the use of the site's Classified ands and Preferred Employer Job Board. Each business sponsor has a mini-webpage on the site, which includes a Referral System to allow military families to inform other users about their own experiences with the businesses. This is, of course, database driven as well.

Charles Ribbens Photography

Local Savannah photographer, Charlie Ribbens, contacted us about putting together a website for his business. Charles Ribbens Photography & Graphics offers the finest in photography and computer graphics. Whether it's family or children portraits, the senior or executive portrait, your child's senior pictures, architectural, medical documentation and presentation, fine art images or your little favorite league teams, he will provide you with fine imagery.

His website needed to reflect this. There were several needs for this site: it needed to be able to exhibit multiple samples of his work; it needed to work aesthetically, as well as functionally, with the photographs; and, with dozens of photos, there needed to be an easy way for the user to see them.

By using CSS (cascading style sheets) and Javascript, we developed an easy to use, highly functional, and very attractive site which not only shows off Charlie's fine work, but also provides customers and potential customers with information about his business and services. Wayne Memorial Hospital Online Education System

Wayne Memorial Hospital needed a more efficient way to allow employee's to complete certain required classes each year, as well as a convenient to track this information. The Scribe Digital Design has developed and maintained several incarnations of the hospital's website (a complete redesign is in progress now at this moment.)

We developed a plan for an Online Education System which could be implemented in stages, allowing the system to become available in phases while considering budgetary constraints . The first phase is already in use, and is already providing tremendous benefits, including better documentation and tracking of educational requirements, employee convenience, and considerable costs savings over the traditional method of paying for instructors, space, and manhours. The system currently allows employees to complete a module online by reading/viewing the information and completing a test. The test is automatically scored and recorded, and if all requirements are met satisfactorily, the employee's educational records are updated.

Supervisory personnel, depending on access rights, may review and/or update employee educational records. In addition to required educational classes, the records also maintain licensure and certification statues, expiration dates, etc. Supervisory personnel can view data based on user selected criteria, print custom reports, and keep up with employee requirements at a glance.

This system is designed for maximum user friendliness, and has received high marks form users and administrators alike. The database driven nature of this system allows it to continue to grow over time. Additional modules for more online classes, as well as additional tracking and reporting functions, are currently in the works. Dixie Outpost

This site was created for Price is Right Tees, located near Charleston, SC. The shop sells a variety of custom t-shirts, as well as other popular lines. Some of these brands, such as the popular Dixie Outfitters™ designs, are often sold online as well as in retail stores, and the shop wanted to take advantage of this with an e-commerce capable site.

We designed a custom site for them, with a database driven online product catalog and e-commerce capabilities. Offering a variety of options for SSL secure online order processing, the site is functional and easy for the user to navigate. Custom scripts calculate taxes and shipping, and give discounts for multiple items. And the site has a humorous touch, with the store's "mascot," the owner's dog, used to give the site the down home feel of the store itself. Visit the site at http://www.dixieoutpost.com .

 

 

Pam T. Property Management

An example of what can be done with a small site. This site was created for a small property management firm. The goal was to provide a means for customers, and potential customers, to learn about the firm's services, and to provide a "listings" page to display the available rental properties.

This was accomplished using MySQL and PHP. The site owner is able to upload new photos, edit listings, add new listings, and change display options, all through the use of PHP forms which stores the information in a database. The content displayed on the listings page is generated dynamically from the stored information, again through the use of PHP. The site is very simple, but serves the purpose it was developed for quite well, and was done so affordably and economically. Be sure to visit them at www.pamtproperty.com .

 

 

 

Small Business Chamber of Savannah

The Savannah SBC had a small site, but needed one that looked professional, was informative and included more features, and that would be kept current. We took this site over and did a complete redesign. We created a new professional look with a consistent layout and navigation scheme. We added features such as a calendar of events, articles by SBC members, and a variety of forms. We also added a database driven members list using MySQL and PHP.

This site is being maintained by another SBC member now, but still incorporates most of our design elements. You can see this site at www.smallbusinesschamber.org .

 

Barber and Company
Barber & Company is an industry leader in the production and design of Silk Screen Heat Transfers. Among other lines, they are the creators of the popular Dixie Outfitters brand, the undisputed leader in Southern Heritage and Civil War T-shirts and apparel.

We originally contracted with them to build the Dixie Outfitters site.They had the domain name and a very small site, but wanted to test the waters with e-commerce. At that time, they had already established a brand name with several designs. The first incarnation of the site was built around these using a static product display and simple shopping cart. The response to the site was incredible! As the number of designs available grew rapidly, it became apparent that the static pages were no longer feasible, so a custom database/PHP-driven online catalog and shopping cart system was developed. New designs were added easily, and display pages immediately reflected any updates. Sales literally took off. Dewey Barber, President of the company, offered this:

This site later underwent a complete overhaul to integrate the online sales with the company's inhouse inventory management system. The design featured SSL secure online ordering, an online catalog, current Southern heritage news, and much more. We worked closely with the staff at Barber and Co. to set this new version of the site up, as well as to develop similar sites for the Dixie Girls brand, and the Christian Outfitters line (later sold.)

For the last two years, the company has its own full time inhouse design staff maintaining several sites for different lines of clothing and apparel the company has launched. Though we no longer do any development work for them, we continue to provide the company with hosting solutions and some administrative services. This is a true online success, and The Scribe Digital Design certainly feels like a big part of that success.
